Japanese-inspired French Toast
Ingredients: Baguette, Egg, Sugar, Milk or Soy Milk, Vanilla Extract · 20 min cook time · 485kcal · ~₩8,500
Ingredients
3slices (2.5cm/1" thick) Baguette, 1개 Egg, 0.5tbsp Sugar, 3tbsp Milk or Soy Milk, 0.25tsp Vanilla Extract, 10g (0.3 oz) Butter, unsalted, 1적당량 Kinako, roasted soybean flour, 1적당량 Kuromitsu, Japanese sugar syrup made from kurozato also known as black sugar, 1개 Strawberry, orange or kiwi fruit, 1스쿱 Ice Cream or gelato
Instructions
1. Beat the eggs thoroughly. Make sure the chopsticks scrape the bottom of the bowl to avoid creating unwanted foam.
2. Add the sugar and stir to dissolve.
3. Then, add the milk and the vanilla extract. Combine all the ingredients evenly. You can also use soy milk instead of regular milk.
4. Place 2.5cm thick slices of baguette in a tray and pour the custard mixture over them. Make sure both sides are completely soaked with the custard mixture. Let the bread sit for 3 to 5 minutes.
5. Now, with the tongs, squeeze each baguette and then flip it over. The squeezing will help it absorb the custard mixture quickly. Let the bread sit for about 5 more minutes.
6. Heat the pan on low heat and add the unsalted butter. When the butter is completely melted, place the baguette slices into the pan. A tip to present a beautifully browned surface is to toast the top side first. Cover and cook on low heat until the bottom is deliciously browned.
7. Now, flip them over. As for the other side, cook on low heat without replacing the lid.
8. When both sides are golden brown, arrange the French toast onto a plate. The strawberry looks great as a garnish, but orange or kiwi fruit can also be used.
9. Spoon the ice cream next to the French toast.
10. Sprinkle on the kinako, roasted soybean flour. Finally, drizzle on the kuromitsu syrup.
