Classic Italian American Meatballs
Ingredients: Ground pork, Ground beef, Panko breadcrumbs, Ricotta cheese, Egg · 60 min cook time · 450kcal · ~₩16,700
Ingredients
250g Ground pork, 250g Ground beef, 50g Panko breadcrumbs, 100g Ricotta cheese, 1개 Egg, 10g Seasoning (salt, pepper, herbs), 800g Crushed tomatoes (or passata), 30ml Olive oil, 2쪽 Garlic
Instructions
1. Combine all ingredients except the meat in a bowl. Whisk together the ricotta, egg, and seasonings to ensure even distribution of flavors.
2. Add ground pork and ground beef to the bowl. Gently break up the meat with a spatula, then use hands to fold the mixture onto itself, pressing down with fingers. Mix for about 30 seconds, just until combined, to avoid overworking the meat.
3. Form meatballs by taking about a quarter cup of the mixture and scraping it against the palm of your hand to form a golf ball or ping pong ball sized meatball.
4. Prepare the sauce: Heat olive oil in a pan, add garlic and cook until fragrant (do not brown). Add crushed tomatoes (or passata) and bring to a simmer. Once bubbling along the edges, turn off the heat.
5. Sear the meatballs: Heat a pan with a little oil. Do not overcrowd the pan; sear meatballs in batches. Cook until a nice golden sear forms on the outside, but do not cook all the way through.
6. Transfer seared meatballs directly into the simmering tomato sauce. Cover with a lid and let them simmer in the sauce until cooked through and tender.
