2cups all-purpose flour, 2cups granulated sugar, 0.5cup cocoa powder, 1.5teaspoons baking powder, 1.5teaspoons baking soda, 0.5teaspoon kosher salt, 1cup boiling water, 0.5cup vegetable oil, 1cup whole milk, 1tablespoon vanilla extract, 2large eggs, 1.5cups unsalted butter, 6cups powdered sugar, 0.25cup cocoa powder for buttercream
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and prepare two 9-inch baking pans with baking spray and parchment paper.
2. Whisk together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and kosher salt in a large bowl. Sift to remove any lumps.
3. In another bowl, whisk together vegetable oil, whole milk, vanilla extract, and eggs.
4. Add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, then slowly pour in the boiling water while whisking until combined.
5. Divide the batter evenly into the prepared baking pans and bake at 350 degrees F for about 35 minutes.
6. Make the buttercream by beating softened unsalted butter until smooth, then mixing in sifted powdered sugar, cocoa powder, salt, vanilla, and a splash of milk.
7. Frost the cooled cake layers with the chocolate buttercream and decorate as desired.
