Blooming Onion
Ingredients: large onion, seasoned flour, dredging batter, hot oil · 15 min cook time · 300kcal · ₩5,000
Ingredients
1ea large onion, 100g seasoned flour, 150ml dredging batter, 500ml hot oil
Instructions
1. Place the peeled onion into the blooming onion cutter, ensuring the root end is intact. Press the handle down about two-thirds of the way to cut the onion into segments, leaving the root connected.
2. Steam the cut onion until it is soft and floppy. This helps the layers separate and absorb the batter better.
3. Dredge the onion in seasoned flour, making sure to get the flour in between all the segments. Then, dip it into the dredging batter, ensuring all surfaces are coated.
4. Carefully lower the battered onion into hot oil, holding it on a spoon or ladle to prevent it from touching the bottom of the pan. Fry for 6 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
5. Remove the blooming onion from the oil and place it on paper towels to drain excess oil. Season with salt immediately.
